Watercress Festival Celebrates Start of British Season
Water, water everywhere – but despite the rain 10,000 turned out for the annual watercress festival at the end of May to celebrate the start of the British watercress season.
Mustard Communications’ MD Wendy Akers commented: “We developed the event six years ago and it’s become so popular that whatever the weather, there are always good crowds. This should give us a great start to the British season and if predictions of a hot summer are right then we are hoping for a very good year!”
The array of entertainment in honour of everyone’s favourite superfood included cookery demonstrations, Morris dancers, live music, a cookery competition, and a World Watercress Eating Championship; while for those eating at a more leisurely pace the Hampshire Farmers’ Market offered treats including watercress pesto, watercress scones and watercress chocolate, and Alresford Pizza Express offered their speciality Watercress Pizza.
